The Pennant sandstone is an alluring blue and grey colour that is popular among those seeking a more modern aesthetic. It can be used in all manner of applications, including construction, landscaping, revetment work, and civil engineering. One of its most frequent uses is for the restoration or replacement of Regency building features such as steps and memorials. Birch Hill Pennant Quarry, to use our full title, also produces an attractive cropped building and walling stone which is favoured by architects and planners.
Sometimes the stone can have a green hue, or even a shock of red within it which provides a more dynamic and contrasting appearance. It is used in a wide variety of applications, including walling, rockeries, house building, architectural masonry, internal flooring, external paving, or for decorative features such as benches, pillars, headstones or even fountains.
The image above shows bullnosed steps with treads and risers, installed at a property in the Cheltenham area, though our stone is so popular for this type of application, we also supply projects further away, including Edinburgh and Cornwall.
Pennant sandstone is also popular with landscape architects as it is highly weather resistant and maintains its striking colours and appearance generation after generation. It makes a eye-catching decorative feature, whether it’s been weathered or newly quarried.
